Kempinski Hotel Dalian

I have a favourable impression of Dalian. The last time I went there many years ago, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the city, natural sights and the almagation of Russian and Japanese culture in their city landscape. And of course the cheap and nice seafood there. I remembered the last time I went there I stayed at the superb Nikko Hotel.

A friend of mine Elyn, who has always been very kind to me, recently paid this northern up and coming city a visit for business and stayed in Kempinski Hotel Dalian. She took some photos and I thought I would share with you guys in case any of you are thinking of making a trip there and looking for hotel choices. The room photos on hotel websites can be all too deceiving at times. So here you go:

Gallery Suites @ Heng Shan Road

If you are looking for a unique or boutique hotel with to stay in Shanghai and you want to stay away from the usual Hiltons or Holiday Inns, I can recommend Gallery Suites, right at Heng Shan Road (aka Party Street). 

The hotel is converted from an old apartment built in 1933. If you want a taste of Old Shanghai during your stay here, this is it.

It is all suites and every room has a different design. Though a bit old, the rooms are reasonably spacious for a suite with a proper and full size working desk which can double up as a dining table for takeaways or hold a small discussion.

If you are coming to Shanghai and looking for a 5 star hotel, you may want to check out Hotel Nikko Shanghai. Just along Yan An West Road (incidentally one of my favourite road in Shanghai), the new five star hotel just opened its doors to guests not too long ago.

Hyatt Regency Hangzhou Guestroom

Sofitel Guangzhou Guestroom

Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel, Shanghai

A friend of mine recently stayed in the Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel.

Lets just call her...Miss Donut. She loves donuts!

These are the pictures she took of her room. If you are looking for hotels in Shanghai, these pictures may provide good references.

The hotel is located in Xu Hui area and is very near shopping malls and the metro and right in a stadium so theres no worries about the taxi driver not being able to find the hotel!  

Overall, she felt the service is only average with the room being spacious and clean. The window curtains are electrically operated. The speed of broad band internet access is also reasonable.
