After two very "successful excursions" to the Fabric Market having lots
of business shirts done. I decided to go back again, this time, for
some pants and a suit. Not too long ago, I recommended three visitors to Shanghai try the Fabric Market instead of MaoMing Road. The female visitors, had a blast there of course, spending the whole day bargaining, getting suits, cashmere coats and others tailored for a fraction of what they would have spent in MaoMing Road.
Not wanting to any necessary risk, I opted for familiarity and decided to patronise the same tailor I visited before. On reaching his stall, he remembered me immediately (I think because I tailored so many shirts the last time round).
We immediately got to business and I of course, pressed him for a good discount. He looked around making sure no other customers around before typing the best price he can give on his calculator.
I felt the price was reasonable given the quality of his work. We agreed on the price. RMB520 for a business suit, 250RM for an additional pair of pants.
I collected the suit 3 days later. The workmanship and attention to details is as good as those much more expensive ones I made before.
Another successful raid at the Fabric Market. Next target...maybe a cashmere coat!
PS: Stall details at this link if you need it.

I thought it would be a good idea to share what camera gear I use. I use a Canon EOS500D with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens and EF 50mm f/1.8II.

Hi -
Can you tell me the hours of this stall?
Thank you.

Hi Thomas,
I am not sure. I think they are open everyday. Try going in the afternoons to avoid a wasted trip.

Hi David,
Thanks for your story on Shanghai Tailors. I plan to get some shirts and a suite while I am in Shanghai next week, but only got 3 days. Would you happen to know if they could get ready in such a short period of time?

Meredith -- any chance you're on your way to CLSA? I arrive on Saturday - so if you're around - we can go to the fabric market together

Hi Daisy,
Chinglish is actually peppered all over Shanghai. They can be found in menus, signboards, and flyers etc. Though the "clean up" is still in progress due to the World Expo, they are still found all over the city. One just need to be a bit more observant to see those.
In less urbanised cities, the situation is a lot worse.
By the way, I just posted another. Have a good laugh!
