I read with amazement the other day in the China Daily about the `Cosmetic craze after exams' where Shanghai parents, post college entrance exams, were rewarding the hard work of their children by giving them plastic surgery.
The article states that parents are offering this to their kids to help them in their future search for employment, because:
The article goes onto state that the most common forms of plastic surgery for students in Shanghai are:
Thats right - labial reduction was the first listed!
Now, considering that some parents were offerring this as a means to improve the employability of their children, my first thoughts on a labial reduction were - what kind of jobs are these girl applying for?
Secondly, what did their parents think was entailed in a job winning interview these days?
Thirdly, how on earth do you bring that up with your daughter? "Darling, you have studied so hard and sacrificed so much - so you know what, we saved up for a year and we want you to have your labia reconstructed!"
I am really hoping that this was simply a mistake made by the author of the article, and they wanted to know what `might' be the most popular cosmetic surgery around, and so Googled it, and ended up with the list above.
But, this is China - so you never know!
HaoHao This

I thought it would be a good idea to share what camera gear I use. I use a Canon EOS500D with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens and EF 50mm f/1.8II.

Too funny! I think this caught on from Korea's facination with cosmetic surgery. A tragedy really.

The Chinese parent is an interesting beast, to be sure... What gives them the right say the beef curtains need trimmin'?
That's madness.
And since when did tiny labias become fashionable anyway?

That's so sick!
When I look through the before and after cosmetic surgery galleries, I often see, that people in 'before' pics look much better than in 'after'. Fore example, here http://plasticsergeant.com/

They probably meant lip augmentation- labia comes from lip, so it would be an easy mistake to make.

In theory it could indeed be labial reconstruction. This is coming from someone I closely knew. She was born and raised "near" Beijing. Her firm belief was that if girl has big labial lips, and especially darkened, it means she has had multiple sexual partners. I am dead serious, and she was dead serious and was really worried what I might think about her and she swore she was not sleeping around. So...China still having lots of people with this kind of beliefs...hmm why not. In theory. In reality: hell no, that is awful. Labia being so sensitive area that any knife there...god no, so dangerous to start slashing down there. So..must have been translation error...MUST be. Please. I hope so.

I'd rather bring my children to a public school, than this private school. Their government should create actions for this.

I think that such an age is too small to actually realize if you need breast surgery, implants or reduction. You should let your body completely change first.
