Here is a quick and easy calculation for anyone wanting to know what their tax liability would be (or is) working in Shanghai, China. It applies only to expats ie. foreigners working here.
I'm not sure if it applies to the whole of China or just Shanghai.
Follow this link. Its in Chinese only, but it is very straight forward:
- Type your monthly salary in RMB into the top box,
- Type 4,500 into the second box (thats the tax free threshold for expats in Shanghai)
- In the blue band at the bottom, click the button on the left.
- The box that pops up will be full of Chinese characters, but the only number that appears is how much in RMB you should be paying in tax.

I thought it would be a good idea to share what camera gear I use. I use a Canon EOS500D with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens.
